I suppose now is the time to come clean - especially since I'm "liveblogging" from the Barnes & Noble cafe... but I have joined the Starbucks nation.
Oh, I used to be a holdout - you know, "I don't like Starbucks, there's nothing really there for me." "Oh, I don't drink coffee." "No, I only drink tea and they're not really great on tea." And it was all true. I still don't like traditional American coffee, so much so that I just shy away from coffee makers - I have no idea what I'm doing.
But then a coworker took me to Starbucks for "coffee and a chat" - they're big on this in the ad game - and just to be polite (and because I have no idea what to order), I get a Caramel Macchiato. Yeah, the one with the caramel all over it. Well, espresso with a lot of milk and caramel drizzled over it is... pretty tasty. Not really like coffee at all.
Still, Caramel Macchiato is like a million calories and ten tons of sugar. So I start to look at the menu more closely... and there's Latte. Espresso.... Plus a lot of milk. How bad can that be? Well, pretty bad... until you dump a lot of Splenda into it - and I mean a LOT of Splenda (7 packets in a Grande. I used to do 9). And sprinkle a little chocolate on it. A little vanilla too, if they've got it.
So now, I do like a Latte a day. It's a nice little perk me up. It's like Stepford, really. I don't think you're allowed to blog and have a floating schedule without a Starbucks fix. At least, that's what they told me as I was going under...
That was very funny but if you are worried about latte's being bad in some way... please keep in mind that milk is extremely fattening. I hope you are at least ordering it with skim milk.
