If there was one thing I could count on during our long national nightmare, it was how much my Mom loathed her congresswoman, Sue Kelly.
Sue was part of the class of 1994, replacing Hamilton Fish in the northern suburbs of Westchester County (i.e., one of the richest - and toniest - areas of Country Club Republicans). Kelly always voted the way that would most annoy my mother, who is the most left-wing person in my life - and quite possibly, yours.
(In an interesting side note, Sue was head of the House page board from 1996-2001, meaning she was involved at a time when Mark Foley's behavior was already being noticed by some.)
Well, Mom, you need to find something else to grouse about - Sue Kelly lost late last night to John Hall - who, as inspiration for the title of this post, was lead singer of Orleans in the seventies.
There will be much joy in a little house in Croton. :)
Interesting that a singer can win an elected office but a football player can't. Sadly, it seems you're right-it is more about the fact that Lynn Swann is black.
