Just like Ann Althouse (I never said she didn't have her moments), I too grew up watching To Tell The Truth and Kitty Carlisle. It was only years later, in New York, that I dscovered that she was, in fact, far more than a game show panelist - the wife of Moss Hart, she was a Broadway and Hollywood legend, and in later years, a
great champion of New York State's commitment to the performing arts.
But I didn't need a lot of biography - just seeing her, day in and day out, being classy and patrician was enough. Among the many things I ever wanted to be, I always wanted to be classy like Kitty Carlisle Hart - with three fabulous names that worked together flawlessly. I don't have the names (or the plummy accent), but I try to be classy. Most of the time.
Her death, yesterday, is hardly surprising. Born in 1910, she'd lived a long, long time - vibrantly, and ever a peformer. I'll miss her. A lot.
I had no idea she died (nor that she was still alive, I'm afraid).
Love what the Simpsons did w/her in a "Matchgame" of the future: her head(only!)in a bubble was a panelist.
