I used to work for Victoria's Secret (I know but I was in college) and we used to shamelessly talk about customers, and yeah, I totally agree, customer service will teach you more than you ever wanted to know about human behavior. So I kind of try to be as nice as possible, and assume it's happening.

It does bother me when food service people (obviously I am sure you don't do this) make jokes about diet or food to me when I order. I'm a regular at an independent coffee shop and there's a guy there who feels the need to comment every single time on my order because I like skim without whip. ("Are you on a diet?" "Hahahaha, no whipped cream, that's funny!" or crap like that.) Creepy, and also totally insensitive. /rant
