Sarah, Plain and Incoherent.

Just in passing, one can't help but note the string of garbled Sarah Palin statements surfacing from her interviews - whether it's bollixing up the Bush Doctrine to Charlie Gibson, failing to cite McCain's legislative accomplishments to Katie Couric, or blurting things out in carefully stage managed town halls, Palin's got a real knack for overtalking and going off the rails. Indeed, what brilliant campaign strategy picked Couric, of all people, as the "easy A" of in-depth interviews (and for that matter, Gibson, too)? I give Couric a hard time for things she's done, but there's no denying that her perky, soft focus reputation masks an ability to dig into people with harder questions than they'd like.

Nailing Palin's various vaguenesses seems well within expectations for a Couric interview - one thing she always did in her Today interviews was push for specifics. I won't go as far as some to say all this "proves" Palin's lack of qualifications... but I think after three weeks of alternately trying to hide her and showcase her, it's clear the McCain people have a problem making Palin a campaign centerpiece... and given Joe Biden's penchant for talking out of turn (to, ahem, Couric, natch), it makes the VP debate the Must See TV of the election season... which is probably why the McCain people seem so cynically determined to take tomorrow's planned debate, overwrite the VP debate and postpone a Palin crash and burn moment for as long as possible. Good luck with that. :)

And PS... I know we all said Tina Fey has the look... but how the heck did she master that accent??? :)
