Can't speak to the Lazy Song yet, and as for Cougar, with me it was always that Small Town song, because like writing a dream sequence, he could have plugged any lyric in there..."I made DeGiorno in a small town."

but...you're so sa-wrong (Pride!) on The 59th Street Bridge Song. I think you're misreading an objective of "definitiveness" where it's just a toss-off title. I always read it as Simon's joke and that what was unwritten there in the title is "(my prerequisite) 59th Street Bridge Song..." Like how Friends titles all of its episodes "The One about..."

plus the dappled drowsy bridge alone has more going on in the lyric than the entirety of most of today's songs and is sweet enough to raise 59th above worst ever (!!) level certainly...though I can agree the crowd's "aww" at the opening chords on the live album is just as extremely cloying as when done in a sitcom studio; I'll give you worst live audience ever :)
